Study this chapter and know it very well. Most students who are not successful in Calculus are weak in Algebra topics.
Know what all of the “Key Terms” on page 55.
Complete the quick review for each section. This will be collected. You MUST show your work.
Complete the chapter 1 Review Exercises. Pages 56-57 #1-70. This will be collected the first day. You MUST show your work. Check your answers in the back of the book. Any problems which you have incorrect, do similar problems found in the section exercises.
There will be a test on the first chapter, the first day class meets. This will be a 50 point test, and not a typical 100 point test. There will be a non-calculator portion.
Bring your calculator to the first class.
Suggestions
Look through the book and become comfortable with the layout and see what we will cover. We will be covering topics for AB Calculus.
Do the assignment 2-3 weeks before school starts, so that it is fresh. Do not leave it until the last few days before school starts. Review again, the week before school.
Brush up on trigonometric identities (page 565) and mental math.
